What if you put your energy into a positive impact job ?
CONTEXT
In a context of strong growth and internationalization, we are looking for a GIS and Remote Sensing Analyst.
For any project seeking certification under a Voluntary Carbon Market standard (such as the VCS or the Gold Standard), a number of geospatial analysis and remote sensing analyses need to be undertaken.
As certification standards constantly raise the bar , Reforest’Action seeks to remain at the forefront of innovation in this field and needs to closely follow new developments
YOUR KEY MISSIONS
Your main missions will be to support each project team by identifying quality geospatial datasets and by proposing data processing and analysis methods, relevant to the technical challenges they may face:
You will be in charge of the following aspects :
- Opportunity and feasibility studies of certified carbon projects
- Analysis of the geospatial context of each forestry project (e.g initial land use categorization mapping of High Conservation Value sites…)
- Baseline characterization and assessment of the project area (E.g. determination of deforestation age, Forest / non-forest assessment in the baseline scenario, etc.)
- Definition of protocols for quantification of carbon stocks in the baseline and throughout the project ( e.g implementation of sampling plans, uncertainty calculations…)
- Support to the Project Manager on risk assessment (e.g. fires, drought, floods, etc.)
- Project Preparation ( in coordination with the Project and Impact teams)
- Set up of the project’s GIS database in line with requirements of Reforest’Action’s Forest Information System
- Assessment of the relevance of using RS for project’s biodiversity monitoring, social impacts and refine monitoring protocols
- Baseline definition and additionality: identification of control areas matching project area characteristics at project start, in order to track evolution of carbon stock in the without-project scenario
- Project implementation & impact monitoring
- Support to the project team on quality control of geospatial project data, provided by the local project implementer
- With the project team, implementation of monitoring protocols involving Remote Sensing, ensuring that results meet uncertainty requirements
- Follow up on any methodology or standard evolution on GIS/RS-related aspect
- Participation in industry work groups and conferences on these topics
- Follow up on related scientific publications
- Follow up on progress and developments from competitors
